I trust your holiday was as relaxing and indulgent as mine. Family, food and football. It's the perfect storm that makes Thanksgiving my favorite holiday. Of course, my wife would tell you that Thanksgiving is the only holiday I actually like. And she'd be right.
The NBA takes a backseat to the NFL on Turkey Day. A couple of low-profile games are staged, both of which typically get buried deep into the evening's edition of Sports Center. It's kind of the same deal in Sim Season. We had two games involving four teams with losing records. Don't get me wrong--it's NBA basketball and I would have DVR'd both games and watched them in their entirety once the football games were finished. Believe me, even yesterday I was not thankful for the lockout.
Since there are only two games to recap, I've included some additional big picture-type stuff for you to peruse. These items follow the game recaps and include expanded standings that also contain team offensive and defensive ratings as well as average point differentials. Full leaderboards follow. Finally, I included the Strat report that lists the individual game highs from the young season.
Now, we are once again hearing rumblings that a settlement to the league's labor debacle may be right around the corner. We've heard this before and if you're like me, you're not going to be excited until a deal is officially announced. Just in case this thing gets done, I thought I should lay out the plan for Sim Season.
We'll keep running daily sims up to and including the day a labor resolution is announced by the players and owners. After that, we'll take a one- or two-day break to run the rest of the regular season. I'll take those results and put together a season-wrap post with final standings, lots of leaderboards and team-by-team stats. There won't be individual game summaries or advanced metrics. That would involve me coding over 1,000 box scores, which just isn't realistic. Sorry. We'll also sim the postseason and post those results a day or two later.
Once the deal is finished, we'll be diving headlong into cranking out Pro Basketball Prospectus 2011-12. Stay tuned.
Through last night, we've played the 171 games the NBA hasn't as part of Sim Season, our Strat-O-Matic simulation of the locked out 2011-12 season. We'll be doing this every day, so check back tomorrow for the results of tonight's action. You can follow me on Twitter for periodic updates on the action. Watch for the #simseason hashtag.

76ERS 104, HAWKS 98: This was a big early-season win for the perpetually break-even Sixers. Philly climbed back to the .500 mark it seems to cling to like grim death, and moved into a comfortable slot as the eight-place team in the East. The Sixers have played a middling strength of schedule, but eight of their 12 contests have come on the road. So a 6-6 mark is looking pretty good, especially considering six of Philly's next seven games are at home and the only road contest is at lowly Cleveland. Doug Collins' squad is in position to put his team in a good place as we step towards the middle part of the campaign. For the Hawks, the big picture is the polar opposite. Atlanta dropped to 4-7 and has lost three straight. The Hawks are just 2-4 at home. The saving grace is the Hawks have played the league's second-toughest schedule. The 76ers shot lights-out in beating Atlanta, shooting 54 percent from the field, 6-of-9 from deep and 14-of-16 from the line. Philly held a 24-6 edge in fastbreak points.

HORNETS 104, CLIPPERS 92: The Hornets won for the first time in the middle game of a five-game road trip and continue to hang tough against a difficult early schedule. Chris Paul's monster line led the way--33 points, five board, 14 assists and four steals. The Clippers got 34 points and 13 boards from Blake Griffin but missed 11 of 25 free throws, keeping L.A. from mounting a serious run. Paul rolled up 17 of his points in the first quarter, during which New Orleans built a 14-point lead.

GLOSSARY
+/- (Plus-Minus) Raw data is from official box scores from NBA.com.
GR (Game Rating) Reflects a player's Points Created total, or the portion of his team's offense for which he gets credit based on his box score line. This number is then adjusted for estimated defensive performance based on box score counterpart productivity. GR is pace-adjusted so you can compare players from game to game.
PCP (Points Created Per Possession Used) An estimate of each player's points created per possession used, a measure of offensive efficiency. The stat accounts for a player's entire box score line, not just the scoring categories.
PLY% (Play percentage) An estimate of the percentage of a team's possessions on which the player was on the court.
USG An estimate of how many of those plays a player used by shooting, going to the line or committing a turnover, with a portion the team's offensive rebound total subtracted.
TEAM STATS
PACE: Estimated possessions in the game.
ORTG: A team's points per 100 possessions.
eFG%: Team's shooting percentage with an extra half-point added for each made three-point field goal.
oRB%: Percentage of a team's misses that they retrieved off the offensive glass.
TO%: Percentage of a team's possessions resulting in a turnover.
FTA%: Percentage of a team's possessions resulting in a trip to the foul line.
