Redrafting the NBA
Round Eight

After Drew Cannon ranked the NCAA's top 100 players, we wanted to do the same for the NBA. In the interim, a host of player rankings popped up all over the Internet. So instead, we decided to try something different: Redrafting the NBA.

Over the next three weeks, Basketball Prospectus' four NBA analysts will be drafting two teams apiece for a total of eight teams and 96 players. We will be selecting players strictly on the basis of expected performance during the 2011-12 season, giving our own ranking of sorts--though one affected by positional scarcity and other outside factors.

Previous rounds: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7

57. Dan B - Joe Johnson, SG, Atlanta Hawks
I'll start building my backup backcourt with someone who can play all three perimeter positions. I'm not totally comfortable with this pick. Johnson is declining--but as long as his production doesn't fall off a cliff (again?), he's the best player available.

58. Bradford B - Danilo Gallinari, SF, Denver Nuggets
Gallinari will back up Durant and be a three-point specialist. He can also swing over and play alongside Durant when I want to spread the floor.

59. Kevin B - Nicolas Batum, SF, Portland Trail Blazers
I feel like the seven guys I have will make up my core rotation, so now it's a matter of filing around the edges. Batum gives me a useful combination of size, defense and shooting and is another rising youngster who could break out next season.

60. Sebastian B - Jason Richardson, G/F, Orlando Magic
With a backup point guard and a backup big, Team B's eight man rotation is complete with the addition of a slashing wing. Jason Richardson is getting up there in age, but again, this is just a one-year redraft, so that isn't much of a factor. Playing with Phoenix, Richardson was able to do just about everything well. My hope is that having him coming off of the bench will allow to fill that same role with my team.

61. Sebastian A - Marcus Camby, C, Portland Trail Blazers
Something that this team is lacking from their bigs is defense and rebounding. Duncan used to be able to do that well, while Brook Lopez hasn't shown that ability so far in his career. So to get a backup big to complete my main rotation, and to get one that is a great help defender and a good rebounder, is a nice pick in my opinion.

62. Kevin A - Jared Dudley, SF, Phoenix Suns
I feel like Dudley's development into a top-tier 3-and-D player went largely unnoticed last season. He knocked down 41.5 percent of his attempts beyond the arc and has good size at the defensive end. SCHOENE forecasts further improvement from Dudley in terms of three-point shooting, which makes him a very effective reserve wing for this team.

63. Bradford A - Emeka Okafor, C, New Orleans Hornets
Okafor joins Gerald Wallace on my second unit as another ex-Bobcat who seems a lot more appealing coming off the bench. Okafor will back up both of my frontcourt positions and can give me an interior defensive presence when Howard invariably gets into foul trouble. I have to have character guys in supporting roles and Okafor is a solid citizen.

64. Dan A - John Wall, PG, Washington Wizards
He's set to make a big jump next year, when he hopefully puts together his immense talent. There's nobody I'd rather he learn from than Steve Nash. Plus, Wall can play off guard when this team really wants to get running.
