The Thunder has had an up-and-down start, but the firepower Scott Brooks has at his arsenal is undeniable. For the second straight night, Oklahoma City played in the highest-scoring game of the season, this time exploding for 141 points in a win at San Antonio. OKC is averaging over 1.5 points per possession in the last games combined. On Monday, it was not a vintage performance for the aging defense deployed by Spurs coach Greg Popovich. Still, as he's shown again and again, when Kevin Durant is on, there is not much a team can do to slow him down. A seven-footer that has the streak shooting ability of Vinnie Johnson and the range of Freddie Brown? Forget about it. Just as Monday is Power Rankings Day, Tuesday is going to be Player Rankings Day--which makes Durant's 43-point outburst timely.

WARP82: Wins Above Replacement Player. Based on performance
and playing time, the wins a player has created as compared
to a replacement-level player seeing the same minutes, prorated
to an 82-game season.
Durant has an early lead over reigning MVP Derrick Rose on our WARP leaderboard. Rose also enjoyed a big night last night. But no one is as hot as Durant, who leads the league with an average over 33 points per game. In his last five outings, Durant has put up point totals of 54, 37, 13, 40 and 43. The 13-point outlier came in a defeat against Denver, in which Durant was outclassed by Danilo Gallinari, another top 10 player so far in November.
Through last night, we've played the 152 games the NBA hasn't as part of Sim Season, our Strat-O-Matic simulation of the locked out 2011-12 season. We'll be doing this every day, so check back tomorrow for the results of tonight's action. You can follow me on Twitter for periodic updates on the action. Watch for the #simseason hashtag.

BOBCATS 97, TRAIL BLAZERS 85: The Bobcats finally broke their win-one, lose-one pattern and now I never have to mention it again. Charlotte won its second straight and improved to 6-4 on the season. Tyrus Thomas' 11 points led the way in a tight, low-scoring first half and the Bobcats led by four at the break. Nolan Smith's drive and hoop late in the third cut the lead to two, but D.J. Augustin spearheaded an 11-point splurge for Charlotte. (I'm digging deep to find new adjectives for describing team streaks.) Charlotte enjoyed a worry-free fourth quarter as Augustin (28 points) outdueled Wesley Matthews (27) for game-high scoring honors. Augustin is enjoying a bit of a breakout campaign as he continues to fend off prized rookie Kemba Walker as Paul Silas' starting point guard. Augustin is averaging 17.1 points and, you may have noticed, clocks in at No. 30 on our league-wide player rankings. LaMarcus Aldridge leads the Blazers and ranks 13th in the league with 14.9 WARP. He had 19 points, six rebounds and five blocks against Charlotte.

NETS 119, WARRIORS 82: With the Warriors stuck in the business-as-usual approach of allowing points by the bushel basket, you can imagine what new coach Mark Jackson would be saying in his postgame pressers. "It is not acceptable to give up 119 points in an NBA game," Jackson did not actually say. "Every man has to look himself in the mirror and say, 'You're better than that.' If you come out and compete, anything can happen." It was all happening with the Nets on Monday. New Jersey blitzed Jackson's Warriors for 69 points in the first half, led by as many as 40, and coasted to the easy win. Deron Williams is the predictable early WARP leader for the Nets, ranking 14th in the league with 14.4, but he got a remarkable supporting line from Brook Lopez, who had 25 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and six blocked shots. And we shouldn't overlook Kris Humphries' 22 rebounds because, let's face it, Humphries' greatest fear right now is that no one will notice him at those red carpet premieres. The Warriors were blasted on the glass ("They just gotta come out and compete," Jackson did not say but you know he would.) and dropped their third straight. The top WARP player for Golden State has been Stephen Curry who, despite missing five games because of an injury, ranks 49th in the league at 8.3.

ROCKETS 102, TIMBERWOLVES 97: The shine is coming off my Timberwolves, who have dropped two straight on the road. Of course, the losses have come at Memphis and Houston and both have been close, so let's not reach for that cup of Drano just yet. Minnesota blew a nice lead in losing to the Rockets. After back-and-forth tussle extended late into the third quarter, the Wolves closed the period with a 19-4 rush and led by 10 going into the fourth. Martell Webster hit three threes during the run. All seemed to be right with the world. But Kevin Martin scored 12 points in the first half of the fourth quarter, leading a 21-6 Houston run. The game stayed tight into the final minute. Darko Milicic scored to cut the Rockets' lead to three with 33 seconds remaining. But Luis Scola hit a couple of free throws and Minnesota couldn't score again. Martin scored 30 to lead the Rockets and his team-best 16.1 WARP ranks ninth in the league. Kevin Love had 18 points and 12 boards, continuing an MVP-caliber performance. Love's 20.3 WARP stands fourth in the league, though he faces a sizable deficit to catch up with the big three of Durant, Rose and LeBron James.

THUNDER 141, SPURS 126: The decade and a half of the Gregg Popovich Era in San Antonio has embedded the idea of the Spurs as a halfcourt team into our hoops consciousness. Even though San Antonio went up-tempo last season, it'll take a long time for that perception to change. In giving up 141 points to OKC, the Spurs managed to rekindle memories of those post-ABA Spurs in the late '70s, early '80s, those of George Gervin, Mike Mitchell and Johnny Moore. Those teams got up and down the floor and their matchups with the Nuggets of that era produced some epic point totals. In fact, the last time the Spurs allowed as many as 141 points in a regulation game was 1990 against the Nuggets. Only that wasn't the Doug Moe Nuggets, it was the horrific experimental Nuggets of the Paul Westhead variety. (The game I'm referrring to: San Antonio 161, Denver 153--in regulation.) Monday's game was definitely a track meet, with the Thunder rolling up 46 fastbreak points. As great as Durant was, let's not overlook Russell Westbrook's 33 points and 18 assists. I've already noted Durant's league-best WARP total, but he's joined by Westbrook in the top 10 at 14.4. Right behind him at No. 11 is San Antonio's Manu Ginobili with 15.3.

BULLS 105, JAZZ 100: "Momma, there goes that man." I'm sorry, I can't stop fake quoting Mark Jackson. I'm going to miss him in the broadcast booth. Derrick Rose was in full effect on Monday with 39 points. He needed only 21 shots to get there and hit 5-of-6 from downtown. It wasn't easy for Chicago against the Jazz. A 10-2 Utah run late in the third tied the game. Utah hung in during the fourth and even tied the score again on Paul Millsap's hoop with 2:20 to play, but the Jazz was never able to grab the lead down the stretch. I mentioned Rose's second-place standing in WARP, but Joakim Noah isn't far behind at seventh. Pacing Utah with 10.3 WARP is Devin Harris, who ranks 35th.

KNICKS 113, KINGS 96: The Knicks were looking to move back over .500 and improve to 2-3 in the fifth game of a seven-game road trip. It looked like it was going to be easy until the Kings reeled off 12 straight points, culminating with DeMarcus Cousins' three that opened scoring in the second half and gave Sacramento the lead before a howling crowd at Arco Arena. But that's where the wave broke and rolled back as New York methodically pulled away over the rest of the game. Carmelo Anthony led the way with 35 points, but his 11.6 WARP on the season actually ranks just third on the Knicks and 29th in the league. Amar'e Stoudemire is 16th at 14.1 and Chauncey Billups is 21st with 12.5. The Kings got 22 points and six three-pointers from Jimmer Fredette who, in case you're wondering, has upped his WARP total to 3.3. Last time we checked, he was sub-replacement level. He also is almost, but not quite, tops on the Kings. You have skip down to 88th to find a Sacramento player, the injured Marcus Thornton at 4.4.

NUGGETS 115, CLIPPERS 98: You have to hand it to the Clippers. By losing by just 17 points to Denver, they actually lowed the Nuggets' average season point differential. L.A. led for most of the first half before a Denver burst gave the Nuggets a three-point lead at the break. Danilo Gallinari led the way with 20 first-half points. Denver led by just four late in the third but went on a 12-point spree to break the game open. Gallinari finished with 30 points and ranks eight with 16.8 WARP on the season. After that, it's a balanced attack for the top-ranked Nuggets with Ty Lawson (43rd), Arron Afflalo (55th) and Andre Miller (57th) all clustered further down the rankings. (Actually, Nene is further up the list but he's erroring out because of that symbol in his name, so I'll have to fix that later. Geez, it's bad enough that he had to forgo a surname. Talk about high maintenance.) The Clippers have been led by Blake Griffin, who is 20th at 12.6 WARP.

GLOSSARY
+/- (Plus-Minus) Raw data is from official box scores from NBA.com.
GR (Game Rating) Reflects a player's Points Created total, or the portion of his team's offense for which he gets credit based on his box score line. This number is then adjusted for estimated defensive performance based on box score counterpart productivity. GR is pace-adjusted so you can compare players from game to game.
PCP (Points Created Per Possession Used) An estimate of each player's points created per possession used, a measure of offensive efficiency. The stat accounts for a player's entire box score line, not just the scoring categories.
PLY% (Play percentage) An estimate of the percentage of a team's possessions on which the player was on the court.
USG An estimate of how many of those plays a player used by shooting, going to the line or committing a turnover, with a portion the team's offensive rebound total subtracted.
TEAM STATS
PACE: Estimated possessions in the game.
ORTG: A team's points per 100 possessions.
eFG%: Team's shooting percentage with an extra half-point added for each made three-point field goal.
oRB%: Percentage of a team's misses that they retrieved off the offensive glass.
TO%: Percentage of a team's possessions resulting in a turnover.
FTA%: Percentage of a team's possessions resulting in a trip to the foul line.
