The Denver Nuggets have surged into the catbird's seat in Week 3 of the Sim Season power rankings. The Nuggets leapfrogged the Lakers and Heat after winning all three of their games by an average of nearly 29 points per contest. Denver's overall average point differential is an absurd +18.1, which more than makes up for their soft, home-loaded early schedule. Denver leads the league in Offensive Rating (126.5) and is sixth defensively (105.1).
The Lakers are riding a five-game winning streak and remain second in the rankings. Miami dropped from first to third. The Heat has won eight in a row, but has played the 28th-ranked schedule so far and has played six of its nine games at home. The biggest leap in the rankings was by Orlando, which jumped seven places all the way up to fourth.

CELTICS 106, WARRIORS 93: The Celtics were coming off a pair of rest days, much-needed after back-to-back losses at Orlando and Miami last week. The game was close early until the Celtics got their offense rolling and opened up an eight-point halftime lead. The Warriors closed the gap and drew within one on David Lee's free throws midway through the third. Ray Allen's three-point play sparked a seven-point Boston run that allowed the Celtics to re-establish its halftime bulge. The Warriors hung close, but Kevin Garnett's layup with 1:04 to play capped an 11-2 run and sealed the deal for Boston. The Celtics shot 52 percent from the field and got 13 points, 19 assists, six rebounds and two steals from Rajon Rondo. Golden State got 21 points, six rebounds and six assists from Stephen Curry but was outscored 40-20 in the paint.

PACERS 99, PISTONS 90: Rodney Stuckey has been on a tear lately for the Pistons and his 10 first-half points left Detroit up by a basket at the break. He scored seven quick points in the third quarter and the Pistons went up eight, but Indiana closed the quarter strong behind Josh McRoberts and Darren Collison, trailing by two entering the final quarter. Detroit went up four on Charlie Villanueva's layup midway through the fourth, but George Hill hit a three and a layup and Collison drilled a jumper as Indiana forged a three-point advantage. Tayshaun Prince scored to put Detroit up two with 3:29 left, but the Pacers reeled off another seven-point run. Collison scored five of those and his three-point play with 2:26 remaining gave his squad a five-point lead. The Pacers cruised from there and outscored Detroit 34-23 in the final quarter.

HEAT 104, 76ERS 94: The Heat entered as winners of seven in a row, making hay during a stretch of nine home games out of 12 to open the season. The Sixers started fast, getting six points from Jodie Meeks during a 13-0 run, and led by 10 after the first. Miami closed the gap despite Lou Williams' 14-point second quarter and trailed by four at the break. The Heat finally went ahead on LeBron James' layup midway through the third quarter and led by seven entering the fourth. James poured in 26 second-half points as the Heat extended its winning streak to eight and once again sucked the fun out of a basketball game by appearing to be impossible to beat. James had 33 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists.

THUNDER 127, JAZZ 125: The Thunder jumped out on top in a wild first quarter, getting 16 points from Kevin Durant and 10 from Russell Westbrook. Devin Harris scored 14 in that opening period, helping the Jazz hang close. James Harden scored seven points during a 13-1 OKC burst in the second quarter that opened the game up. Harris stayed hot in the second half, hitting a jumper with 7:58 to play to trim the lead to six. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way, until Al Jefferson's free throws with six seconds left cut the lead to two. But Utah was unable to foul and the Thunder ran out the clock, preserving the win in the season's highest-scoring game to date. Durant scored 40. Westbrook's court time was limited by foul trouble, but he still managed to score 18 points in 17 minutes. Harris led Utah with 34.

KNICKS 100, SUNS 83: Former Suns coach Mike D'Antoni returned to his former stomping grounds in what you'd expect to be a high-scoring affair. It wasn't. Phoenix led by three at the break by a 38-35 score. It stayed close most of the way through the third but Carmelo Anthony capped a 13-2 run with a layup to begin the fourth quarter, giving the Knicks an 11-point lead. Phoenix responded with an eight-point surge, closing within two, but the Knicks reeled off 13 straight to gain the upper hand. New York eased across the finish line and snapped a three-game losing streak. Phoenix dropped its second straight at home as the shine from its 8-1 start begins to fade. It was an unusually balanced attack for the Knicks, who hit 11-of-23 from deep.

GLOSSARY
+/- (Plus-Minus) Raw data is from official box scores from NBA.com.
GR (Game Rating) Reflects a player's Points Created total, or the portion of his team's offense for which he gets credit based on his box score line. This number is then adjusted for estimated defensive performance based on box score counterpart productivity. GR is pace-adjusted so you can compare players from game to game.
PCP (Points Created Per Possession Used) An estimate of each player's points created per possession used, a measure of offensive efficiency. The stat accounts for a player's entire box score line, not just the scoring categories.
PLY% (Play percentage) An estimate of the percentage of a team's possessions on which the player was on the court.
USG An estimate of how many of those plays a player used by shooting, going to the line or committing a turnover, with a portion the team's offensive rebound total subtracted.
TEAM STATS
PACE: Estimated possessions in the game.
ORTG: A team's points per 100 possessions.
eFG%: Team's shooting percentage with an extra half-point added for each made three-point field goal.
oRB%: Percentage of a team's misses that they retrieved off the offensive glass.
TO%: Percentage of a team's possessions resulting in a turnover.
FTA%: Percentage of a team's possessions resulting in a trip to the foul line.
