Insofar as it's possible to have a favorite team in a computer simulation, the Minnesota Timberwolves have become my Sim Season team of choice. And for reasons I cannot begin to ascertain, my favorite player has been sweet-passing Spaniard Ricky Rubio. Maybe this would make more sense if we were simulating these games in a Star Trek-style Holodeck. Now there is an idea. Minnesota got a signature win on Friday. Read on for that and the details of the night's 11 other games.
Through last night, we've played the 131 games the NBA hasn't as part of Sim Season, our Strat-O-Matic simulation of the locked out 2011-12 season. We'll be doing this every day, so check back tomorrow for the results of tonight's action. You can follow me on Twitter for periodic updates on the action. Watch for the #simseason hashtag.
REMINDER: Strat-O-Matic veterans already know this, but the newest version of SOM's Computer Basketball Game (Version 9.0) was recently released. As it happens, our favorite gaming company is offering a discount for all you lockout-weary fans who want to run your own simulations. Or maybe you just want to match wits with a fellow hoops fan, no matter where in the world he/she may reside. All you have to do is go to this page to place an order. When you check out, just enter the discount code LOCKOUT to get 15% knocked off the listed price.
NOTE: The offer has been extended and now expires at 11:59 p.m. EST on Nov. 20. Enjoy!
PACERS 91, TRAIL BLAZERS 77: The Pacers were trying to break a four-game skid while Portland was simply attempting to avoid making its early-season hole even deeper. The teams traded runs in a tight first quarter, but the Pacers' rode a 12-1 spurt to a comfortable advantage in the second and led by 13 at the break. Indiana scored the last eight points of the third--all from the foul line--to break the game open. Portland's 77 points were both a season-worst for the Blazers' offense and a season-best for the Pacers' defense. Portland shot just 30 percent, getting poor performances from Gerald Wallace (2-of-14), Ray Felton (4-of-15) and Wesley Matthews (4-of-14). Indiana also did a great job denying LaMarcus Aldridge the ball--the high-scoring Portland forward got just six shots in 37 minutes.

76ERS 92, BOBCATS 78: I probably pay too much attention to the fact that the Bobcats have followed a win-one, lose-one pattern all season but since I have, I'll note that the blueprint called Charlotte to lose on Friday. Philly was just trying to break a three-games skid. Jrue Holiday led the way as the Sixers jumped to a nine-point halftime lead. Charlotte scored the first four points of the second half to cut the led to five, but that would prove to be as close as the Bobcats could get. Holiday topped the scoring chart with 24, but the Sixers were led by Andre Iguodala's box-score stuffer--20 points, seven rebounds, 11 assists, two steal and a block. Charlotte shot just 33 percent from the floor and never led in the game.

RAPTORS 98, BUCKS 79: This one came from the something's-got-to-give category--the Bucks had lost five in a row; the Raptors had gone six games without a win. The game was tied late in the second quarter when Leandro Barbosa's three sparked a nine-point Toronto run to end the half. Undaunted, Milwaukee scored the first nine of the second half, the final three points of the run coming when Ersan Ilyasova was fouled on a three-point attempt and made all three foul shots. Finally, the Raptors broke open the stalemate with a 15-point burst, during which Andrea Bargnani scored nine points and Milwaukee's Andrew Bogut picked up three fouls and found his way to the bench. Toronto was in control after that. Jose Calderon had 18 points, seven rebounds and 13 assists to lead the Raptors' attack. Also Reggie Evans had a classic Reggie Evans game--11 rebounds in 21 minutes and zero points on 0-of-0 shooting. The man knows what he does best.

HEAT 104, CAVALIERS 76: Well, you know the storyline. LeBron returns to Ohio. Clevelanders scramble for tickets so they can boo their former hero. The Heat had won six in a row and while the presence of Kyrie Irving makes the Cavs more interesting, the squad had won just twice in seven outings. Cleveland hung tight for most of an ugly first half, but Miami scored the last eight points leading up to the break, upping its lead to 12. The Cavs managed just 28 first-half points. The game was never close after that, as Miami led by double figures the entire second half. James had 20 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists, three steals, two blocks and a game-best +21 score on the plus-minus chart. Boo!

HAWKS 101, PISTONS 85: Geez. Another ugly affair in Detroit. Zaza Pachulia keyed an eight-point run late in the second quarter that put Atlanta up by 10. The Hawks led at the break by the unlikely score of 36-27. Things picked up a bit after the break and Rodney Stuckey's free throws late in the third brought Detroit wthin a deuce. Atlanta edged further in front, then broke it open in the fourth when Al Horford and Joe Johnson each scored twice during an 11-point run. Stuckey enjoyed his second straight big scoring night in a losing cause for the Pistons, rolling up 38 points on 11-of-27 shooting. What did new Pistons coach Lawrence Frank think about all those shots? Um, well, he wasn't available for comment. Johnson had 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists as Atlanta evened its season mark at 4-4. The Pistons dropped their fifth in a row.

TIMBERWOLVES 106, SPURS 76: Given the results of Sim Season to date, this surely would have been a game I sought out on League Pass. Minnesota had won three in a row and five of six with its young, exciting roster. The T-Wolves welcomed the old dogs into the Target Center, the ancient but still formidable Spurs. Derrick Williams capped a 12-2 run that left Minny up 28-14 early in the second. Cory Joseph scored on consecutive possessions for the Spurs, but the Kevin Love scored twice during an eight-point surge, and the Timberwolves found themselves up by 18 points. Folks, the rout was on. Soon thereafter, Michael Beasley scored three times in a row and the T-Wolves led 45-20. They led by as many as 32 and cruised in with the shockingly easy victory to improve to 6-2 on the season. Love led the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds, but check out this line from Ricky Rubio--nine points, 10 assists, three steals and four blocked shots. Minny outrebounded San Antonio 55-34, grabbed more than 40 percent of its own misses and outscored the Spurs 30-16 in the paint. Wow.

HORNETS 106, NETS 90: Both teams came into the game at 3-4. The Nets won their first three but had dropped four straight. The Hornets were looking to regain some momentum one game after snapping a three-game skid and had Chris Paul back in the lineup. That turned out to be a really good thing for New Orleans as Paul poured in 21 first-half points to lead the Hornets to a 15-point halftime lead. The Nets never got closer than 12 points after that. Paul dominated old nemesis Deron Williams, putting up 33 points, five rebounds, 14 assists and three steals. Williams had 17 points, six boards and 12 assists but it obviously wasn't close to enough.

NUGGETS 122, THUNDER 78: The teams entered the rematch of last spring's fine first-round series firing on all cylinders. The Nuggets had won five of six and sported the league's second-best point differential. Oklahoma City had recovered from a 1-4 start by winning four in a row. The Nuggets led by 15 after one, getting nine points from hot-shooting Arron Afflalo. They eventually led by as many as 31 points in the second and it just kept getting worse for OKC. Kennth Faried's bucket with 6:39 to play put Denver ahead by 50 points. Danilo Gallinari had 26 points and helped hold Kevin Durant to 13 points on 5-of-19 shooting. Andre Miller had 14 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists. Rookie Jordan Hamilton scored 17 points and his four three-pointers in off the bench for Denver.

MAVERICKS 116, KINGS 110: The Mavericks had won five of six and entered as 22-point favorites against the 2-7 Kings. Tyreke Evans' 11 points helped Sacramento hang close in the first despite Dirk Nowitzki's 19-point quarter. Jimmer Fredette capped a six-point run midway through the second that left the Kings ahead by three, though that lead was quickly erased by a J.J. Barea three. Fredette scored at the first-half buzzer to put Sacramento up by a bucket at the break. Fredette scored nine more in the third keeping the Kings close, but Dallas led by five entering the final quarter. Fredette kept at it, hitting a three and scoring in transtion to pull Sacremento within three. Dallas edged further in front but J.J. Hickson's bucket closed the gap again to three. After that, the Kings just couldn't get stops down the stretch, coming up short in a very entertaining game. Nowitzki scored 35 points before fouling out. Jason Kidd added 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Fredette led the Kings with 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Evans added 25 points, six rebounds, nine assists and three steals. The Kings outscored the veteran Mavericks 34-6 in fastbreak points.

JAZZ 107, CLIPPERS 90: The Clippers have been pretty competitive so far, much more so than the 2-6 Jazz which was, nonetheless, coming off a 17-point win over the Knicks. Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap led an early onslaught in the paint and Utah led by 13 after one quarter. The Jazz led by eight at the break after Eric Gordon's three at the second quarter buzzer gave the Clippers some momentum. Ryan Gomes scored late in the third to pull L.A. within four. Devin Harris keyed a 15-4 surge and Utah led by 15 midway through the fourth and won going away.

BULLS 115, SUNS 110, OT: The Bulls have been just kind of treading water so far, but the Suns had won eight of nine and won the last five games of a six-game road trip. The Bulls led by two early in the second quarter when Hakim Warrick and Robin Lopez keyed a 12-point Phoenix burst. But Chicago scored the last seven points of the half and Carlos Boozer began the second half with a basket to pull the Bulls within a point. The Bulls were up by three midway through the third when Steve Nash scored twice in a row to regain the lead for the Suns. The game was tied entering the final quarter. Derrick Rose capped a seven-point run midway through the fourth, scoring on a drive and hitting a three-pointer to tie the game at 94. The Suns again eased out in front, but Chicago again rallied, tying the game on Kyle Korver's hoop with 2:44 to play. After some empty possessions, the Bulls grabbed the lead on Rose's transition hoop with 1:06 left. In the final seconds of regulation, Marcin Gortat rebounded a Grant Hill miss, kicked the ball out to Nash, who found Channing Frye for a basket in the paint, sending the game to overtime. The teams traded buckets in the extra session. Ronnie Brewer scored with 1:56 left to put Chicago up by two. After a Phoenix miss, Rose scored in transition and Brewer later added a free throw to cap Chicago's 7-0 run to end the game. Rose had 32 points and 12 assists for Chicago. Nash had 14 points and 18 assists for Phoenix.

GLOSSARY
+/- (Plus-Minus) Raw data is from official box scores from NBA.com.
GR (Game Rating) Reflects a player's Points Created total, or the portion of his team's offense for which he gets credit based on his box score line. This number is then adjusted for estimated defensive performance based on box score counterpart productivity. GR is pace-adjusted so you can compare players from game to game.
PCP (Points Created Per Possession Used) An estimate of each player's points created per possession used, a measure of offensive efficiency. The stat accounts for a player's entire box score line, not just the scoring categories.
PLY% (Play percentage) An estimate of the percentage of a team's possessions on which the player was on the court.
USG An estimate of how many of those plays a player used by shooting, going to the line or committing a turnover, with a portion the team's offensive rebound total subtracted.
TEAM STATS
PACE: Estimated possessions in the game.
ORTG: A team's points per 100 possessions.
eFG%: Team's shooting percentage with an extra half-point added for each made three-point field goal.
oRB%: Percentage of a team's misses that they retrieved off the offensive glass.
TO%: Percentage of a team's possessions resulting in a turnover.
FTA%: Percentage of a team's possessions resulting in a trip to the foul line.
