This is more like it. After a five-games, five-blowouts night on Monday, Tuesday's quartet of contests featured some tight battles. That includes the Phoenix-Detroit tilt, which turned out to be the best game of the season so far. Skip down to the game summary to find out what happened.
We're far enough into the season that it's worth a look at our first league-wide WARP leaderboard. Who's the early-season MVP? This is a good place to start. By the way, these WARP numbers have been prorated for 82 games, so they don't match up with the rookie WARP leaderboard we put out the other day.

MAGIC 113, PACERS 101: The Magic put its five-game winning streak on the line against the Pacers. Jason Richardson's driving layup at the first-half buzzer capped a back-and-forth half and gave Orlando a one-point lead. Indiana stormed out of the gates in the third with eight straight points, six by Mike Dunleavy Jr. Orlando battled back and tied the score on Quentin Richardson's jumper to finish third-quarter scoring. In the fourth, neither team could get more than a three-point lead until Hedo Turkoglu's transition bucket gave Orlando a four-point advantage with 2:50 to play and started a 10-point Magic run to finish the game. Richardson scored a game-high 24 points and Dwight Howard added 22 points and 14 rebounds.

SUNS 112, PISTONS 110: This turned out to be the best game of the season so far. The Suns have been one of the biggest stories of the early part of Sim Season and entered Tuesday's game in Detroit with the league's best record. Phoenix lost to Memphis in the first game of a five-city road trip but won the next three, all by double digits. The Pistons had lost three in a row entering the game but had won both of its home games this season. The Suns started fast, grabbing a 10-point lead behind 15 first-quarter points from Grant Hill. After Austin Daye's three cut the Phoenix lead to eight late in the half, the Suns finished the second with an 11-2 burst to lead by 17 at the break. Phoenix went up 22 on Vince Carter's three early in the fourth. Then Detroit started to rally. Rodney Stuckey's traditional three-point play capped a 14-2 run that drew Detroit within 10 at the 8:45 mark. Hill scored with 4:41 left to run the Suns' advantage to 11. The Pistons answered with a 10-point run, drawing within a point on Tayshaun Prince's bucket with one minute to play. Channing Frye scored in the lane with 39 seconds remaining, but Stuckey hit a jumper at the 22-second mark. Steve Nash hit two free throws, but Stuckey drilled a three to draw the Pistons even with two seconds left. Suns coach Alvin Gentry called timeout. Hill ended up with the inbounds pass and missed a runner in the lane, but Marcin Gortat was there for the tip, which he converted as the buzzer sounded. Stuckey scored 33 of his 41 points in the second half, but the Pistons still came up just short.

ROCKETS 115, CLIPPERS 108: Kevin Martin and Randy Foye traded three-pointers at the end of the first quarter, the latter leaving the Clippers up by two. L.A. expanded the lead to seven midway through the second before a 7-0 Houston run was capped by a three-point play from Hasheem Thabeet. Remember him? Ultimately, the Clippers led by nine at the break. They went up by 11 midway through the third before a 9-0 Houston surge capped by a Chuck Hayes hoop. The Clippers extended the lead to eight before Jonny Flynn ended the third with a trey. That started a 13-2 Houston run that finally gave the Rockets the upper hand. Patrick Patterson scored three times during the burst. Courtney Lee hit threes on consecutive possessions to put Houston up by five with 6:07 to play. The Clippers made a couple of runs after that, but the Rockets eased in with the drama-free win.

LAKERS 104, WIZARDS 74 The Wizards were coming off their first win of the season, an upset of the Bulls on Sunday. The Lakers were looking for their fourth straight victory. Washington stayed competitive for about three quarters before a 13-3 Lakers run turned the game into a rout. L.A. led by at least 20 for the entire fourth quarter. The Wizards shot just 29 percent from the field, a showing typified by Jordan Crawford's 4-for-20 turkey.

GLOSSARY
+/- (Plus-Minus) Raw data is from official box scores from NBA.com.
GR (Game Rating) Reflects a player's Points Created total, or the portion of his team's offense for which he gets credit based on his box score line. This number is then adjusted for estimated defensive performance based on box score counterpart productivity. GR is pace-adjusted so you can compare players from game to game.
PCP (Points Created Per Possession Used) An estimate of each player's points created per possession used, a measure of offensive efficiency. The stat accounts for a player's entire box score line, not just the scoring categories.
PLY% (Play percentage) An estimate of the percentage of a team's possessions on which the player was on the court.
USG An estimate of how many of those plays a player used by shooting, going to the line or committing a turnover, with a portion the team's offensive rebound total subtracted.
TEAM STATS
PACE: Estimated possessions in the game.
ORTG: A team's points per 100 possessions.
eFG%: Team's shooting percentage with an extra half-point added for each made three-point field goal.
oRB%: Percentage of a team's misses that they retrieved off the offensive glass.
TO%: Percentage of a team's possessions resulting in a turnover.
FTA%: Percentage of a team's possessions resulting in a trip to the foul line.
