Turns out New Orleans isn't going to go unbeaten, so there goes that drama. The Hornets dropped a close game in Dallas, a quality loss which keeps New Orleans on top of the power rankings. The sleeper team in our POW top five is Pheonix, which has won five of six, a stretch which includes wins over the Lakers, Hawks and Nuggets. The Suns clock in at fourth in the league this morning. Before we jump into the Roundup, I've gotten a couple of questions on GR context. I thought that the distribution of the game totals would be fairly self explanatory. Don't those totals look familiar? Because GR is basically a redistribution of a team's pace-adjusted points total, it is meant to generate scores that look like player point totals. The scaling is the same, so it should be easy to judge context. A 40-point GR is excellent; 50-point is even better and more rare. A 30 GR night is akin to a 30-point night for a scorer, and so on. Hopefully that explainer will make the metric more useful for you if were having trouble wrapping your mind around what those numbers mean.

MONDAY'S BOX SCORES & RECAPS
NOTE: Glossary is at bottom of page.
BOBCATS 113, TIMBERWOLVES 110 (box): Don't look now, but Larry Brown has the Bobcats heading in the right direction. Stephen Jackson remains one of the hottest players in the league, with a GR of 27.8 or better in five of his last seven games. Charlotte has won three of four, with the only loss coming as a result of Deron Williams' buzzer-beater against the Bobcats last Saturday. The Bobcats have put up an Offensive Rating of 109.5 or better in all four of those games, improving their league rank on that end to 19th. In beating the Timberwolves, the Bobcats won for the first time in five tries at home this season. The Wolves lose a tough one, but put up another nice Offensive Rating, their fourth in a row, a streak that roughly coincides with Michael Beasley and Kevin Love rising up to become the two-headed monster in Kurt Rambis' triangle attack. On Monday, they were actually aided by a decent game from the third member of the starting frontcourt: Darko Milic had 13 points, 12 boards, five assists and four blocks. His 12.6 GR was a season high and only the second time he's cracked double-digits this season. Darko played a season-high 38 minutes in the game.

MAGIC 89, GRIZZLIES 72 (box): Defense ruled the day in Orlando, as the Magic held the Grizzlies to a measly .825 points per possession. Memphis scored at least a point per possession in each of its first 10 games. Rudy Gay shot 4-of-17 from the field and failed to get to the foul line. The Magic were the aggressor in this one, with a 27-11 edge from the foul line that nearly mirrored the final margin. The Grizzlies grabbed 15-of-53 off the offensive boards, but were just 5-of-14 on second-chance opportunities and were actually outscored 15-11 by Orlando in those situations. If you aren't shooting well, not converting putbacks and can't get to the line, well, you end up with a .8 PPP night.

MAVERICKS 98, HORNETS 95 (box): The Mavericks outscored the Hornets 29-19 in the final quarter in handing New Orleans its first loss of the season. This was a matchup of two of the NBA's top five defenses, but the offenses were efficient in a predictably slow-paced game. The Mavericks went 6-of-9 from three-point range in the fourth quarter, with Jason Kidd going 3-of-3 and Jason Terry going 2-of-2. Rick Carlisle played most of the quarter with a three-guard lineup including Kidd, Terry and J.J. Barea, yet Dallas grabbed 15 of the 22 available rebounds in the period. Still, the Hornets were in it till the end, missing four shots--three threes--in the last :17.9 of the game. Emeka Okafor clanged a three at the buzzer that could have tied the game.

SUNS 100, NUGGETS 94 (box): With Robin Lopez out, Alvin Gentry tightened his rotation but still managed to get excellent production from his bench. Hakim Warrick is the Suns' best threat in the post and as a pick-and-roll finisher; he put up 21 points on nine shots against the Nuggets. The Suns' lack of size in the paint contributed to Carmelo Anthony's career-best total of 22 rebounds and Phoenix shot just 4-of-20 on threes, one night after knocking in 22 against the Lakers. Still, The Suns survived thanks to a 31-18 fourth quarter during which they controlled the boards, shot 11-of-18 and held the Nuggets to 5-of-17 from the field. Warrick played the entire final period and led the way with nine points.

THUNDER 115, JAZZ 108 (box): Once again the Jazz fell behind by double digits in the second half and once again Utah closed fast, but the tightrope proved to be too tough to walk this time. The Jazz don't play great defense and that was on display against the hot-shooting Thunder on Monday. Utah allowed 1.3 points per possession and just couldn't get stops when they were most needed. The Thunder shot the ball well, posting a .592 eFG% in the second half, but won the game at the foul line. Kevin Durant (30 points) was a perfect 16-of-16 from there and the Thunder went 33-of-34 from the charity stripe in the game. OKC leads the league with an amazing 88.1 percent mark at the line. Denver is second at 80.7 percent. The league record is 83.2 percent, set by the Celtics in 1989-90.

WARRIORS 101, PISTONS 97 (box): The Warriors returned to their home floor after a long road trip and celebrated their new ownership with a fast start, as Golden State got back in the win column. It didn't prove to be as easy as it looked like it'd be early. Monta Ellis scored 21 of his 27 points in the first quarter and the Warriors pushed their lead to as high as 32 points. However, the Pistons closed fast, with a 28-14 fourth quarter and a 10-point run that pulled them within 98-96 with :47.8 to play. Golden State ran the clock down on the ensuing possession before Ellis missed a jumper, giving Detroit the ball with :14.2 to play and a chance to tie or go ahead. Dorell Wright reached in an poked the ball away from Ben Gordon and the Warriors iced the game with free throws. Golden State had 13 steals in the game, leading to a 23-14 edge in fastbreak points. Perhaps more importantly, the Warriors grabbed over half the available rebounds in the game, a nice bounceback performance in their third straight game playing without the ailing David Lee.

NETS 110, CLIPPERS 96 (box): The Clippers are short-handed and young and, as it's turning out, not very good. Vinny Del Negro started a college-aged lineup, with Al-Farouq Aminu and DeAndre Jordan joining Eric Bledsoe, Eric Gordon and Blake Griffin. It was the youngest starting lineup in franchise history and a nice glismpse of the future for Clippers fans, but that unit was thumped pretty good in the game. Gordon scored 30 points but shot just 6-of-20 and Griffin was hampered by foul trouble. The Nets got an excellent game off the bench from Jordan Farmar, who put up 15 points and 12 assists in 35 minutes. Farmar got extra run after Devin Harris was ejected for a flagrant-2 foul for taking down Griffin on a breakout.(

NEWS & MOVES
Minutiae from around the league
LEAGUE: "The Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose and the Utah Jazz's Deron Williams today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Nov. 8, through Sunday, Nov. 14." (press release)
According to total GR for the week, the voters nailed the Williams selection. However, Rose was pretty far down the list, so it's unclear what caught people's eye with him. It was probably the Bulls' 3-0 record, but Luol Deng actually had the better week for that team. NBAPET would have given this week's POW honors to Atlanta's Josh Smith.
BULLS: "Chicago Bulls guard Kyle Korver did not practice Monday and will undergo an MRI on his sore right knee. Korver did not travel with the team on Monday to Houston, the first stop on a two-week trip, but he is scheduled to join the Bulls on Tuesday." (ESPN Chicago)
This will push James Johnson back into the rotation, which gives Chicago's second unit a different look. Korver is shooting 58 percent from three-point range this season, but hasn't gotten many looks playing with the Bulls' reserve unit.
JAZZ: "Rookie Gordon Hayward will start for the Jazz on Monday night against Oklahoma City in place of Raja Bell, who has a groin injury. Hayward's most extensive action came in a loss to Phoenix on Oct. 28 when he played 25 minutes and scored six points and added six rebounds." (Associated Press)
Hayward spent a lot of time staying out of the way. He knocked down two of his three shots in 22 minutes and showed some nice inside-out passing skills. He also shows good anticipation as a help defender. However, Hayward has a long ways to go in terms of becoming a consistent producer.
RAPTORS: "The Toronto Raptors announced Monday they have assigned rookie centre Solomon Alabi to the Erie BayHawks of the NBA Development League. Alabi will continue to be included on the Raptors' roster and will be placed on the team's inactive list." (press release)
Alabi wasn't getting court time, so this was a logical move for the Raptors. However, with Toronto so utterly devoid of interior defense, it would have been nice to see what Alabi could do with a few minutes off the bench each night.
SUNS: "An MRI performed on Suns center Robin Lopez revealed a moderate sprain of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his left knee. Lopez is expected to be out several weeks. Lopez will travel with the team when it departs on its four-game road trip Tuesday. Lopez has started all nine games for the Suns in 2010-11, posting averages of 5.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 17.8 minutes." (press release)
The Suns will try to survive Lopez's absence with a hyper-perimeter attack, so if you've got a center on your fantasy team going against Phoenix, make sure he's in the lineup.
WARRIORS: "'Is there a day in the future when the team could wind up being in San Francisco? It's possible,' Lacob said. 'Like any good businesspeople, we're going to evaluate our opportunities. If it's a better thing to move to San Francisco, we would consider it. ... We are very well aware that our primary fan base is in Oakland today. We're conscious of that. We're aware of that. We love it there. Let's not confuse the issue, but we would have to consider our options.'" (Associated Press)
There are a lot of exciting things about Golden State's new ownership. There is nothing wrong with their current fan base in Oakland, however, so it might not be the best time to muse about a possible return of the San Francisco Warriors.
